Night Visual Flight Rules (NVFR)
The holder of this rating is permitted to fly under Night Visual Flight Rules (NVFR) anywhere in Australia with passengers. Flying at night adds an entirely new dimension to your visual pilot training! On completion of the rating you will be able to remove the limitations of first and last light (weather permitting) and make flying a little more convenient.
The course is a minimum of 10 hours, involving circuits and navigational exercises. The rating starts with 2 hours of basic instrument flying and night circuits, followed by 2 hours of instrument nav-aid work and then 6 hours of navigation exercises.
Prior to undertaking the Night VFR Flight Test, the following requirements must be met:
1) Hold a Private Pilot's Licence
2) 10 hours of flight time at night, including:
a) at least 2 hours in the circuit
b) at least 5 hours dual navigation instruction
c) at least 1 cross-country flight of 3 hours duration over at least 100nm
For your night rating you can choose from a range of aircraft;
- Cessna 172R
- Cessna 182
- Piper Arrow
- Beechcraft Baron
Your own aircraft may be used under certain conditions.
The time period required is 1-2 weeks weather permitting.
